Makiba opened The Garden of the Benching Path fashion show with “Crown,” a vibrant collection that brought youthful confidence and contemporary African-inspired style to the runway at the Regency Suites.
Built around a striking blue, gold and purple print, the collection featured coordinated crop tops, shorts and skirts shaped through twists, knots, cut-outs and asymmetrical draping. The recurring fabric created a clear visual identity, while variations in styling allowed each look to retain its own character.
The models carried the collection with confidence, moving between playful, poised and commanding presentations. Their individual styling—from sleek ponytails and long braids to voluminous natural hair—strengthened the personality of each outfit and reinforced the collection’s celebration of modern femininity.
A floral halter ensemble introduced contrast to the dominant print story, while the structured two-piece looks offered wearable interpretations of statement fashion. Collectively, “Crown” balanced cultural influence with contemporary resortwear, delivering a confident opening to the African History Month presentation.
