The KFC Big Bash League (BBL) champions Perth Scorchers are set to take on some of the world’s top T20 teams in the 2026 ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL), scheduled to take place in Guyana from July 23 to August 1.
The upcoming edition will mark the third staging of the tournament and the first time the Perth Scorchers will participate. The team will compete under the name Perth Scorchers XI as they join four other elite international franchises in the competition.
The GSL brings together five leading T20 teams from across the globe to battle for the championship title and a US$1 million prize purse. All matches will be played at Providence Stadium, the home ground of the Guyana Amazon Warriors, over a 10-day period.
Former BBL-winning captain and Scorchers legend Simon Katich will serve as stand-in head coach for the tournament. Regular head coach Adam Voges will be unavailable due to his commitments with Trent Rockets in The Hundred competition in England.
The GSL continues to attract global franchises since its launch. In 2025, the Guyana Amazon Warriors captured the title, while Hobart Hurricanes, the BBL|14 champions, were the lone Australian representative in that edition. A Cricket Victoria side represented Australia during the inaugural tournament in 2024.
WA Cricket Chief Executive Officer John Stephenson said the Scorchers eagerly accepted the invitation to compete in the event.
“We are extremely excited by the prospect of taking part in the third edition of the GSL,” Stephenson said.
“The Perth Scorchers represent everything that is uniquely Western Australian, and the GSL provides us with a chance to showcase this at an international level.
“The tournament has gone from strength to strength since its inception, and we look forward to seeing how our team goes on the global stage.”
Perth Scorchers General Manager of High Performance Cricket and Elite Teams, Kade Harvey, said the tournament would offer valuable experience for the players.
“The GSL will provide our players with a wonderful opportunity to test themselves in foreign conditions against some of the best T20 sides from around the world,” Harvey said.
“Taking part in a tournament of this nature will also give our players an opportunity to ready themselves for the Australian domestic summer, which includes our BBL title defense.
“In Adam’s absence we are incredibly fortunate to call on someone with the credentials and experience of Simon Katich. Our players will benefit greatly from working with him throughout the tournament.”
The 2026 ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League is expected to deliver another exciting chapter in the growing international T20 competition, bringing top-tier cricket action to Guyana’s Providence Stadium.
